TODAY IS THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION of the Lord. It is the Patronal Feast of the Diocese of Hamilton, under the mantel of Mary, Our Lady of the Annunciation.  Today is also an historic day in the life of the Church. Pope Francis, joined by Bishops, Priests, Religious and Lay Faithful around the world, is making an Act of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Holy Father has been assiduous in decrying the inhuman destruction of the lives, homes, and livelihood of the Ukrainian people. He has repeatedly called for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian relief for the people and safe access out of besieged cities. The Act of Consecration calls upon Mary, Mother of God, Mother of the Church, and Queen of Peace, to intercede before the throne of grace – so that hearts might be turned away from the evils of hatred and the destruction of war! To join your voice to the Act of Consecration you may access the prayer here.

JESUIT FATHER ERIC JENSEN, who ministers at Loyola House in Guelph, has authored one of his signature ‘small books’ about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. From Forgiveness to Healing, Preparing Our Hearts for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, published by Novalis, may be a ‘small book’ but it has a big message! It may be read in one sitting, as a reflective retreat over time, or both. It is a cover-to-cover experience of grace. Well worth the read. The book will be provided to Priests at this year’s Chrism Mass dinner.

FORWARD TOGETHER IN CHRIST. As the COVID restrictions on our Parishes and liturgical life are being lifted, it is necessary for the Diocese to determine the best path forward for our lives as Disciples of Christ. To help determine this, the Diocese is embarking on a process we are calling “Forward Together in Christ”. Through this process, the voices of our clergy and laity, will help determine our best way Forward Together in Christ. Consultations with Deacons and Lay Parish Pastoral Ministers are already underway. Meetings with the Priests will occur over the next few weeks in each of the Deaneries. Pope Francis has made it clear that we are not returning to the “normal” of February 2020, but that this is a time of grace to determine our “new normal” as the People of God moving Forward Together in Christ!

THE CONSTRUCTION OF ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA CHURCH on Hamilton Mountain is beginning to show! The steel beams are being erected revealing the building’s shape and size. Father Mark Gatto inspects the site regularly along with building overseer, Deacon Tom Vert. During a recent visit, Father Mark had a close up view of the cranes that are doing the “heavy lifting”. It is an exciting time for parishioners who have waited a long time for their new church!
