OVER 150 CATECHUMENS presented themselves at the two Rites of Election that took place on February 11th at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, Guelph, and on February 18th at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, Hamilton. Supported by their Sponsors they came forward to sign the Book of the Elect as a preparation to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Many of their Parish Priests and members of the Parish RCIA Teams were also present. The ceremonies were moving and joyful. We pray for The Elect, and for those who will be received into Full Communion during the Easter Vigil liturgy!

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR to members of our Asian communities! Representatives from our Korean and Vietnamese Catholic communities visited the Chancery on the occasion of the start of the Year of the Dog (or Golden Dog in Korea), which represents wisdom and harmony. Father Hanh Van Tran, OMI, (Our Lady of Vietnam Parish, and Vietnamese Martyrs’ Mission); Father Young Hoon Kim, (St. Peter Yu Korean Parish); Father Junghyuk Choi, (St. Paul Chung Korean Parish), Deacon Taek Jong Han, Maria and Francis Shin, and Mr. Dao, Council representatives from the Parishes, brought New Year’s greetings and gifts to celebrate the occasion. Chancery Staff now have the opportunity to enjoy delicious Korean pears!

THE ANNUAL BISHOP’S CHARITY DINNER DANCE takes place tomorrow evening at Carmen’s Banquet Centre, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in the Hamilton area and coordinated by a team of Knights under the direction of Corrado Ciapanna and Robert Chwalyk. Thanks to all who have purchased tickets for the event which is celebrating its 33rd Anniversary this year. Fortunately my mother will be my special guest!!! See you there!

TODAY, the Church observes the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. We are united in prayer for all Consecrated Religious men and women who bear witness to Christ in our world by their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and thank God for their faithful witness in the Diocese of Hamilton.
