THE LUNAR NEW YEAR is celebrated in some of our cultural Parishes this weekend. Saturday, January 28th marks the New Year. Vietnamese Martyrs Mission in Waterloo celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish last weekend. This weekend celebrations will take place in our Korean and Vietnamese communities in Hamilton and Kitchener. We offer our congratulations and good wishes to the Asian Priests and parishioners in our Diocese who mark the beginning of the Year of the Rooster!

THE RECENTLY RE-OPENED NEWMAN CENTRE IN GUELPH made headlines in The Ontarion, the University of Guelph’s Independent Student Newspaper. The article featured photos of the Centre outside and Father Mark Morley, Ania Krysciak and a few students. A successful open house, earlier in the month, attracted students and members of the “Catholic community” at the University. We pray for blessings on the initiatives of the Chaplaincy at the University of Guelph!

The annual Multicultural Mass will be celebrated on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. Erin Pease and Stephen Kaduuli and the organizing committee have worked hard to ensure that everything is ready and that participants from a variety of cultures will animate various parts of the Mass.

BISHOP WILLIAM MCGRATTAN HAS BEEN APPOINTED BISHOP OF CALGARY, the Vatican announced on Wednesday at noon. He will be installed on February 27, 2017. Bishop McGrattan serves currently as the Bishop of Peterborough. Born in Brantford, Ontario, he was baptized at St. Basil’s Parish – so the Diocese of Hamilton has a legitimate claim on him. We pray for blessings in his new ministry! Bishop McGrattan has already assured us that he will still preach the Retreat for Priest’s in May!
