For the Love of Creation is a faith-based initiative for climate justice devoted to a future that cherishes all life on our planet. They will be hosting a webinar September 10, 6-7:30PM to explore local practices that sustain and progress Creation care ministries. The Green Team at Regina Mundi Parish in Hamilton is celebrating the Season of Creation by hosting a retreat and spreading the gospel of Creation in fellowship with their community. The team will be closing out the season by running a bottle drive in support of the new Good Shepherd Men’s Shelter in Hamilton, demonstrating a beautiful commitment to integral ecology and Catholic outreach. The Peace with Creation Retreat will take place September 20th, from 9AM-12PM. Please contact the parish office to register.
Ignatius Centre is a place for spiritual reflection, ecological engagement and community connection. In addition to offering peaceful places for retreat and prayer, IJC also provides educational opportunities on regenerative farming, conservation and Creation care. IJC will be hosting several events throughout the Season of Creation including Roots and Renewal Forest Week, September 22-27. This offers a full week of workshops, conservation activities, and events for youth and families. You can learn more about IJC and their work through their website.
This event is offered over Zoom, and begins with a moving tour of the longest running residential school in Canada, located just 30 mins outside of Hamilton. The tour is followed by a Question and Answer segment facilitated by the Woodland Cultural Centre’s Education team. The cost of this event is covered by the Diocese of Hamilton and proceeds support the important, ongoing work of the Woodland Cultural Centre. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: A day meant to acknowledge the painful legacy of Residential Schools, to honour the children who did not return home, as well as the survivors of these institutions, their families, and communities. Acknowledgement and commemoration of this painful history is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Orange Shirt Day: This is an Indigenous-led commemorative initiative, intended to raise awareness of the intergenerational impacts of Residential Schools and to promote the message that Every Child Matters.
His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will lead a celebration of hope for our common home. This will be followed by breakout sessions and guest speakers from Oct 2nd -Oct 3rd around the theme of Raising Hope Together. An extraordinary assembly of speakers will rejoice in the impact of Laudato Si’, outline the challenges that remain in caring for our common home, and explore how faith communities can most effectively lead efforts for change. Speakers include His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Michael Czerny, and Alistair Dutton, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis among others. Learn more here.
The forum released the Care for our Common Home Dialogue Guide as a tool for parishes, schools, community groups, to engage with the Holy Father’s Encyclical, Laudato Si. The forum recently released a new resource, A Dialogue Guide on Justice and Right Relationships. It focuses on listening to and centring Indigenous Voices. Both guides are ideal for small group discussion, and include comprehensive instructions on how to facilitate meaningful discourse on important social issues.
