RCIA

Each year, parishes welcome new members through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). In addition, often, parishes welcome new team members to assist pastors in providing spiritual and catechetical formation for those seeking entry into the church.

It is helpful and important that RCIA team members receive formation so that they can confidently accompany catechumens and candidates. To this end, the Liturgy Office is offering a four-week program for new and existing RCIA team members. The tentative dates and locations are:

Tue Sep 10, 17, 24 and Oct 1, 2024, 7 PM to 9 PM St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Kitchener
Wed Sep 25 and Oct 2, 9 and 16, 2024, 7 PM to 9 PM Diocese of Hamilton, Chancery Office

Session One: Overview of RCIA and The Art of Accompaniment
Session Two: Precatechumenate and Catechumenate
Session Three: Period of Purification and Enlightenment (Rite of Election, Scrutinies)
Session Four: Mystagogy, Minor Rite, Roles, Responsibilities, Resources

We invite you to register below:

RCIA is an adult learning model that requires active participation from multiple people to achieve desired outcomes. As a result, if fewer than ten people register prior to September 3, 2024 (one week before the first workshop), we will consolidate both workshops together into the later one.

Should you have any questions, please contact the Liturgy Office.

How does an RCIA Leader know "what to do"?

The one consistent answer is prayer. Prayer is essential to RCIA. Through prayer, we connect with God, seek guidance, and discern God’s will. We invite you to download the “Prayer as a Pathway to RCIA.”
