World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly 2023

World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

The third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 23, 2023. The Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has forwarded excellent material which you can find below.

Purpose of the Day

To show care gratitude and affection for grandparents and the elderly and to help them feel part of our Christian family and our history. They too can share their faith and hope with younger people which can help society to recognize the value of the elderly.

Theme

"His mercy is from age to age" (Luke 1:50) God’s mercy is seen throughout history and remembered by the testimonies of those who pass it on to their children and grandchildren. Grandparents and the elderly fill this role, but they are also called to receive God’s mercy, remembering that God is always with them.

Pastoral Suggestions

Includes suggestions on the following:

  • Visiting the elderly who are alone
  • Preparing for the day with the elderly
  • Preparing for the day with the youth
  • Plenary Indulgence
