Celebrating 10 Years of Mission: Mass of Thanksgiving for the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ

Date posted on March 9, 2026

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the Diocese gathered in gratitude and joy at Saint Stanislaw Kostka Parish in Hamilton to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the mission of the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ in our community.

The Mass was presided by the Most Rev. Joseph Dabrowski, CSMA, Bishop of Hamilton, and concelebrated by Fr. Marian Gil, OMI, Pastor of the parish, together with a number of priests from the Diocese who have accompanied and supported the Sisters throughout the past decade.

In his inspiring homily, Bishop Joseph reflected on the Sisters’ ten years of presence in the heart of Hamilton—ten years marked by humble service, prayer, courage, and trust in God’s providence.

He noted that the Sisters have “walked the streets of Hamilton carrying the heart of the Gospel,” offering not only food or shelter, but a living encounter with Christ in the wounded, the homeless, the addicted, and the forgotten.

The Bishop emphasized that their mission is more than charitable action; it is Gospel lived without compromise: choosing service over status, prayer before action, and closeness over comfort. Through street outreach, food distribution, listening with compassion, and their daily Eucharistic prayer, the Sisters “bind the wounds of our neighbourhood” and quietly transform the city from within.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude for their fidelity, their hidden sacrifices, and their joyful witness, while also thanking the priests, parishioners, volunteers, and benefactors who have supported this mission over the years. Together, he said, they remind us of the Church’s true treasures: those most in need of love.

As we enter more deeply into Lent, Bishop Joseph reminded us that holiness is not only about giving something up, but about giving ourselves away. He concluded with the Sisters’ cherished motto: “Iesu totus, totus Iesus — Jesus all, all for Jesus.”

Following the Mass, the celebration continued in the parish hall, where parishioners of Saint Stanislaw Kostka and members of the wider Hamilton community gathered for a simple reception. Lay associates of the Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ, friends, and supporters joined in fellowship to honour the Sisters and to give thanks for their decade of service.
It was a warm, joy-filled evening marked by gratitude, shared memories, and hope for the years to come.
