Date posted on March 27, 2024

Priests and lay faithful from across the Diocese of Hamilton gathered on Monday, March 25th, 2024, at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King for the annual Chrism Mass.

Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, was the principal celebrant and blessed three vessels of oils that will be used during the administration of sacraments in parishes over the next year.

The Chrism Mass is also an opportunity for priests of the Diocese to gather together in solidarity with the Bishop and renew their commitment to priestly service.

Oil of the Sick was presented by Reverend Mr. Rob Thomas, and Mr. Larry Litzgus from St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Burlington. Anointed with the Oil of the Sick, the inform are forgiven their sins and restored to health; they are given strength to bear their sufferings in union with Christ.

Oil for Catechumens was presented by Reverend Mr. Sean Meaney and Mr. Alex Petruska from St. Dominic Parish, Oakville. Anointed with the Oil of Catechumens, those preparing for Christian initiation are strengthened to turn away from sin and deepen their resolve to know Christ.

Oil for Sacred Chrism was presented by Reverend Mr. Luis Cordeiro Inacio and Ms. Esther Yang from St. Paul Chung Parish, Kitchener. Anointed with Sacred Chrism, the faithful share in the life of CHrist - the Anointed One - and are sealed with God's Spirit for witness and service.
