Highlights from the Rite of Election 2024

On February 18, 2024, non-baptized adults and young people from across the Diocese of Hamilton celebrated the Rite of Election simultaneously at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton and the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph. The celebrant at the Cathedral was Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, while the celebrant at the Basilica was Bishop Wayne Lobsinger.
This important Rite enrols candidates as members of the “Elect” in preparation for full initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and first reception of Holy Communion – at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. The books that were signed at each celebration will be located near the baptismal font at the Cathedral Basilica throughout the Season of Lent. Let us pray that the Holy Spirt continues to strengthen the Elect on their Lenten journey to the joy of the Easter sacraments.
