Diocese of Hamilton Purchases Mount Mary Immaculate Retreat Centre

Date posted on May 10, 2019

The Diocese of Hamilton formally announces the purchase of Mount Mary Immaculate Retreat Centre, a property currently owned by The Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, located at 437 Wilson St. E., Ancaster, ON, L9G 3K4. The Diocese will take official possession of the property at the end of May 2019.

The Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, a Ukrainian Catholic Congregation, purchased the former Wynnstay Estate in 1946 and named it Mount Mary Immaculate. From the start, Mount Mary has served as a school of religious formation, an orphanage/children’s home, and a private residential and day high school for girls.  In 1976 Mount Mary began hosting retreats and continues to do so.

The Diocese is committed to carry on the ministry of The Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate and will continue to make use of the property as a retreat centre. This decision “has so many positive implications for the Diocese,” said Most Rev. Douglas Crosby, OMI, Bishop of the Diocese Hamilton, adding that “this purchase has the potential to make a huge impact on the many ministries and the people of the Diocese of Hamilton.”
