THE ANNUAL EVALUATION OF SEMINARIANS studying at St. Peter’s Seminary in London, takes place next week. The review involves written reflections by the seminarians, a Rector’s report, and comments from the entire staff (except Spiritual Directors). It is a very helpful process, giving us the opportunity to make important decisions about our seminarians and their future engagement with the Diocese. We are blessed to have committed seminarians who work hard to meet the high standards of the Seminary. “What God has begun in them, may He bring to fulfillment!”
ST. JAMES PARISH IN OAKVILLE has completed a significant One Heart, One Soul Capital Campaign project, the renovation of the narthex of the church. The priests and parishioners will join me for the blessing of the completed project. Throughout the Diocese, parishes and missions continue to be blessed by the results of the One Heart, One Soul Capital Campaign. Similarly, our University Chaplaincies have been able to undertake projects that benefit the students who participate in the spiritual and community life at our student centres. All thanks to the generosity of parishioners throughout the Diocese!
JOURNEY THROUGH LENT 2025 SERIES continues with the video presentation for the Third Sunday of Lent. It is available on the CCCB website, or can be easily accessed here.
THE CANADIAN CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS (CCCB) has written to the Federal Government expressing concern regarding legislative changes to the eligibility criteria for charitable status. Recommendations 429 and 430 would have wide-ranging consequences on the charitable sector, and affect millions of Canadians who benefit from their services. Read the letter here.
A SECOND LETTER FROM THE CCCB concerns the recently concluded “national consultation” on expanding Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). This consultation was limited because it presumed agreement on points which the Catholic Church and others disagree, and did not include alternatives. Read the letter here.
THE PROVINCIAL SUPERIOR of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate – Assumption Province (Toronto), has presented Father Kazimierz Tyberski, OMI, to serve as Associate Pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Hamilton, effective tomorrow, March 22, 2025. THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will be celebrated on Saturday at Sacred Heart Parish and Blessed Sacrament Parish, Hamilton. On March 30th, Confirmation will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Parish, in Hamilton, both at 12:30 and at 2:30 p.m. Pray for the young people preparing to celebrate this wonderful Sacrament, for the teachers who are helping them prepare, and for the Pastors and Pastoral Ministers who assure that everything is ready for the celebration.
A REMINDER TO ALL PRIESTS IN THE DIOCESE OF HAMILTON: Be sure to respond to the invitation you have received to the Chrism Mass and Dinner no later than MARCH 28th. It is a helpful courtesy to the Cathedral staff and to the caterers preparing the food. We want to assure that there is a place for everyone who plans to attend. I look forward to celebrating with you the blessing of priestly service in the Diocese.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
Ex corde, +Douglas, OMI
