World Youth Day in the Diocese on November, 24, 2024

Heart to Heart: Issue #557

WORLD YOUTH DAY IN THE DIOCESE is marked on the Solemnity of Christ the King, Sunday, November 24th, this year. “Those who hope in the Lord will run and not be weary” is the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the celebrations which take place in the Dioceses worldwide! The Pope invites young people to set out on the pilgrimage of life before them in joy and hope!

FATHER VALENTINE ONWUNJIOGU was appointed Episcopal Vicar for International Priests and a member of the Episcopal Board at the recent meeting of the Diocesan Episcopal Board. With this appointment he also becomes a member of the Presbyteral Council and of the Personnel Committee. We are grateful for his acceptance of these services in the Diocese, and for the ideas and reflections he will share as a member in service of brother Priests. Father remains Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Guelph.

THREE PRIESTS HAVE BEEN INCARDINATED in the Diocese of Hamilton over the past few months. Father Paul Patrick, Pastor of St. Gabriel’s Parish in Burlington, was incardinated in June. Father Patras Samuel Masih, Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Hamilton, was incardinated in August. Father Francesco Cucchi, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Hamilton, was incardinated last week. We welcome them to the cadre of Priests in the Diocese of Hamilton. Thank you for your service!

MARY CLAIRE MORGAN, until now Coordinator in the Stewardship and Development Office, was appointed Manager of Mount Mary Retreat Centre earlier this week, following the resignation of Nicole McCowell. Nicole will continue to serve the Diocese as Director of Youth Ministry. We wish both of them well as they continue their service to the Diocese in these ministries.

THE FALL EDITION OF THE RESURRECTION BULLETIN features the celebrations of vows for their seminarians in Tanzania. Ten postulants were welcomed into the Novitiate on August 14th, following a five-day retreat. The next day, five Novices professed their first vows, six seminarians renewed their temporary vows, and one professed final vows! The community thrives there! In the same edition, Father Toby Collins writes of his April visit to Morogoro to experience the young and vibrant Church, to speak to the formation community, and to witness the good work of the Congregation of the Resurrection. Inspirational!

PREPARING FOR THE 2024 JUBILEE OF HOPE, the Diocese of Hamilton offers three brief sessions throughout the Diocese during the month of November for Adult Faith Formation Leaders in Parishes and Schools. All are welcome to participate. Registration information, time and locations details can be found here.

THE PERMANENT DEACON FORMATION PROGRAM continues this weekend. First year candidates and their wives will learn about Theological Anthropology. Third year candidates and their wives continue their study of The Trinity with Father David Perrin. Thanks to all who participate in the formation program.

A WARM WELCOME TO the English Sectoral Commission for Liturgy and the Sacraments who meet in our Chancery Office next week. Bishop Wayne Lobsinger, the chairperson of the Commission, invited them to this “in person” meeting. Christina Ronzio, the Director of the CCCB Liturgy Office, served in our Diocese Liturgy Office before she accepting the CCCB position in Ottawa. Welcome to all!

ALL SAINTS OF GOD, pray for us!
Ex corde, +Douglas, OMI
