CANADIAN CATHOLIC FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATORS (CCFA) draws together men and women who manage the financial affairs of Catholic Dioceses from across the country. This year’s conference is hosted by the Diocese of Hamilton at the Waterfront Hotel in Burlington. The opening Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King on Sunday evening, followed by a reception in McNally Hall. An interesting program has been arranged for the three-day conference, including among many topics, a presentation on Stewardship by the Steier Group, on legal matters by Carters Professional Corp., on insurance updates by Catholic Mutual Group, and a visit to St. Catherine of Siena Church in Hamilton. KEITH METCALFE was appointed Director of Mission and Spiritual Care Community of Practice, for St. Joseph’s Health System (SJHS), effective April 22, 2024. He has been serving as Interim Director for the past year. In this role, Keith is a certified Spiritual Care Practitioner with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from King’s College at the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Divinity from St. Peter’s Seminary. He joined SJHS in June 2020 as Chaplain and was named Professional Practice Lead in 2021. Prior to joining SJHS, Keith worked at University Health Network, focused in the cardiac intensive care units and inpatient wards at Toronto General Hospital. We welcome him and wish him well in his new role!
THE BRUCE-GREY CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD announced appointment of Karyn Bruneel as the new Director of Education, effective August 1, 2024. An experienced leader in Catholic Education, Karyn becomes Director of Education as the Board prepares to announce its new three-year strategic plan next month. Karyn has a background in curriculum, special education, and educational leadership, serving as a Supervisory Officer with the Board.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS from across Ontario, and their wives, will gather in Niagara Falls today and throughout the weekend to celebrate their State Council Convention. It is always an important gathering for the Knights, a time to review the successes of their many good works of the past year and to focus on new initiatives moving forward. Archbishop Marcel Damphousse, Archbishop of Ottawa, is Chaplain. He will preside at a Mass on Saturday evening, joined by Priests who are Chaplains to local Councils. We wish you a beneficial convention.
MR. BRIAN BEAL, General Secretary of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario (ACBO), will visit the Chancery Office of the Diocese of Hamilton next Thursday. His first visit to the Diocese, it will give him the opportunity to meet office personnel and to see some of the valued ministry supported by our staff.
THE ANNUAL CEMETERY MASSES begin again on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington. One of the blessings of the Diocese of Hamilton Catholic Cemeteries is that our loved ones are prayed for at cemetery Masses through the year. The Masses are usually followed by a reception. ALTAR SERVER AWARDS sponsored by the Hamilton and Halton Serra Club takes place at the Cathedral Basilica next Thursday evening. It is an opportunity to recognize and express our gratitude to Altar Servers who faithfully serve Mass in our parishes. We have many capable servers throughout the Diocese.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton, on Sunday morning, and at St. Gregory Parish, Cambridge on Wednesday evening. Pray for the young people who present themselves for Confirmation. Thanks to Pastors, Pastoral Associates and Teachers for preparing the young people!
