Each year, the Catholic community of Ontario engages in a week-long celebration of the unique identity and distinctive contributions of Catholic education during Catholic Education Week. This year’s celebration is entitled, “Catholic Education: Nurturing Hope” and will be celebrated during the week of May 2 – May 7, 2021. We invite you to watch Bishop Crosby's message.Watch on YouTube
The theme of this year’s Catholic Education Week is “Nurturing Hope”. We hear from the prophet Isaiah that “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will run and not grow weary.” (Isaiah 40:31) As Christian people, we are called to embody and share the virtue of hope.
Hope has been essential as we continue to grapple with the effects of pandemic life. It can be difficult to express hopefulness in the face of continued restrictions and isolation from all that we know as normal. Our world is making history each day as we learn new ways of being and doing that protect one another and encourage solidarity even while apart. We have sacrificed so much in the past year, and yet, we still choose to give more to one another and to God in joyful praise, looking towards a hopeful tomorrow.
Gracious and generous God, creator of the earth, our common home,
With each new day, we prepare the earth of our lives by sowing seeds of gratitude for all you have given. Inspire us to cultivate relationships with all living beings. May we harvest new fruit and marvel in the wonder at the beauty around us. Nurture us in hope.
In lieu of an in-person Catholic Education Week Mass this year, His Excellency Bishop Crosby has pre-taped a Liturgy of the Word for celebration in the home or virtual classroom. We thank the Staff and Students of St. Francis Xavier High School in Milton and Father Petrie of St. Benedict Parish, Milton.
The Liturgy can be prayed with the full video, or as a blend of in person prayers with a pre-taped proclamation of the Gospel and reflection from Bishop Crosby.
Pre-taped at St. Benedict Parish in Milton, with Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI.
Made specifically for Primary/Junior classrooms to blend with prayers.
Amen. +
“Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.”
