2026 Ordination to the Transitional Diaconate

On Friday, June 19, 2026, the faithful from across the Diocese of Hamilton gathered at St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Cambridge to celebrate the Ordination to the Transitional Diaconate of Jangho Michael Hong and Peter Hoan Nguyen.
The Ordination Mass was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton, Bishop Wayne Lobsinger, with concelebrants including Very Reverend David Walter, Reverend Mark Morley, Reverend David Reitzel, and many priests of the Diocese of Hamilton.
The church was filled with family members, friends, parishioners, clergy, seminarians, and members of the diocesan community who came together in prayer and joyful support of the two men as they took this significant step toward the priesthood.
During the Rite of Ordination, Jangho and Peter made the promises of the Elect, including their promise of obedience to the Bishop and his successors. Through the laying on of hands and the Prayer of Ordination, Bishop Lobsinger invoked the Holy Spirit upon the candidates as they were ordained to the Order of Deacons. The newly ordained were then vested, received the Book of the Gospels as a sign of their ministry of proclaiming the Word of God, and were welcomed with the fraternal kiss, symbolizing their entrance into the Order of Deacons.
In his homily, Bishop Lobsinger reflected on the true nature of ordained ministry:
"In a world that often measures success by power, influence and recognition, the Deacon is ordained to embody another way – the way of Christ. The one who came not to be served, but to serve."
He also encouraged the two men to remain steadfast in their relationship with the Lord as they continue their journey toward the priesthood.
"Before you can be ministers, Peter and Jangho, you must first be disciples. Before the Deacon can truly serve the people of God, he must learn how to remain in the love of Christ."
Following the Ordination, Deacon Jangho Hong will complete his Diaconal Year at St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Cambridge. Deacon Peter Nguyen will spend his Diaconal Summer at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Stoney Creek.
