The Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King was filled to capacity on the morning of Monday, February 2, 2026 as faithful from across the Diocese of Hamilton — joined by family, clergy, religious, civic leaders, and guests from near and far — gathered to celebrate the installation of Bishop Joseph Dabrowski, CSMA, as the tenth Bishop of Hamilton.
The Mass of Installation marked a significant moment in the life of the local Church, formally welcoming Bishop Dabrowski as its new shepherd.

Following the reading of the Apostolic Letter of Appointment by Msgr. Murray Kroetsch, Bishop Dabrowski was led to the bishop’s chair and presented with the crozier of Hamilton’s first bishop, Father John Farrell. The rite was presided over by installing prelate Cardinal Frank Leo, alongside Bishop Douglas Crosby, symbolizing both continuity and renewal in the episcopal ministry of the Diocese.
A series of greetings followed, as representatives of priests, deacons, religious women and men, families, youth, and seniors from throughout the Diocese individually welcomed Bishop Dabrowski to Hamilton and pledged their prayerful support.
In a homily marked by gratitude and humility, Bishop Dabrowski acknowledged those who have shaped his vocation, including Cardinal Leo, Cardinal Thomas Collins, Apostolic Nuncio Ivan Jurkovič, and especially his predecessor, Bishop Crosby.
“As I begin my ministry in Hamilton, I am deeply aware of the rich legacy of faith and service that has shaped this diocese."

He offered particular appreciation for Bishop Crosby’s fifteen years of service: “You have truly lived out your episcopal motto every day and have modeled for us a collaborative ministry that has borne much fruit.”
Expressions of thanks continued in multiple languages, reflecting Bishop Dabrowski’s Polish heritage, the presence of his family from across Europe, his Michaelite community, and relationships formed during decades of ministry in Ontario and Charlottetown.
Celebrated on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Bishop Dabrowski’s homily drew from the Gospel of Luke (2:22–40), offering a pastoral vision grounded in attentiveness and witness.
Bishop Dabrowski emphasized welcome, collaboration, and shared responsibility for the Church’s mission.
Drawing on the biblical story of Joseph, he introduced himself simply and powerfully:
“Today I stand before you and my name is Joseph… I come to you as Joseph, your brother.”

Following the liturgical celebration, guests gathered for a reception at LIUNA Station, where clergy, parishioners, community leaders, and visitors had the opportunity to greet Bishop Dabrowski personally and continue the day’s joyful celebration in fellowship.
In the coming weeks, Bishop Dabrowski will continue meeting the diocesan community and will celebrate Mass with the faithful on the First Sunday of Lent.
