Celebrating Refugee Sponsorship in Action

Beginning a New Life in Canada:

On September 14, 2015 the family of Mr. Raed Abdulmaseeh arrived in Canada, welcomed by their sponsors from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Ancaster. The family of Mr. Abdulmaseeh was sponsored under the Blended Visa Office Referred (BVOR) Program. Under this program refugees are identified and referred by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and are often considered travel-ready at the time of referral.

In the case of Mr. Abdulmaseeh and his family, the sponsorship application was submitted by the Office for Refugees to government officials in Canada in June 2015 and the family arrived in Canada less than three months later!

The Office for Refugees of the Diocese of Hamilton recently had the pleasure of welcoming the family of Mr. Raed Abdulmaseeh to the Chancery office, including his wife, Halah, and his two daughters, Mina and Maryna. They are pictured above with Chancery staff, including Msgr. Murray Kroetsch (far right), as well as representatives from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church.

Welcome Raed, Halah, Mina and Maryna. We wish you all the best as you settle into your new life in Canada.
