On June 27, both the Roman Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada will celebrate the memory of Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky, Bishop, religious and martyr, whose tomb is in Saint Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Winnipeg.
Saint John Paul II signed the Decree of Beatification in 2001. In July 2014, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, solemnly proclaimed Blessed Vasyl patron of prison ministry for the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
