Pope Francis confirms his presence at the World Meeting of Families

Pope Francis will offer Mass on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Arts on Sunday, September 27. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops anticipates that 1 – 2 million people will be present for the Mass. The Diocesan plans for the World Meeting of Families includes being present for the Mass.

During his announcement to confirm his presence Pope Francis stated, "Family is an anthropological fact - a socially and culturally related fact," he said. "We cannot qualify it based on ideological notions or concepts important only at one time in history. We can't think of conservative or progressive notions. Family is a family. It can't be qualified by ideological notions. Family is per se. It is a strength per se."
