This is a one day, two part informative opportunity aimed at providing participants with a greater understanding of mental illness. It is meant to both educate and reduce the stigma and fear associated with mental illness. Participants will have the opportunity to attend one or both parts of this day long workshop: 

Workshop 1: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM Workshop 2: 1:30 – 4:00 PM
Hearing Voices
Simulation Workshop: Hearing Distressing Voices aims to develop empathy for the person with lived experience of psychiatric disability through the simulation of hearing distressing voices. It demonstrates challenges faced by the person and offers practical approaches.
Note: This workshop is NOT for the person who hears voices and has a limit of 30 participants.
Support for those with Mental Illness
Sometimes you just don't know what or how to say something to be supportive of the person with mental illness. This workshop offers approach and language insights that can be used by lay persons. This workshop will help raise your comfort level and allow you to offer greater compassion to the person with a mental illness. We will also discuss how to de-escalate a situation if a person with mental illness exhibits agitation.
