Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Louis-Zéphirin Moreau

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Louis-Zéphirin Moreau

On May 10, 1987, St. John Paul II presided in Rome over the beatification of Bishop Louis-Zéphirin Moreau, 4th Bishop of the Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe in Québec. As we mark the 120th anniversary of his death on May 24th this year, and prepare to mark the bicentennial of his birth in 2024, we are asked to pray to ask the Lord, if it his will, that he be canonized and proclaimed a saint one day.

A daring builder, founder of two women's religious communities, in solidarity with the poor, the farmers and the workers, Bishop Moreau was also very active in the education field.

A bishop who was attentive to his priests and the parishioners in his diocese he touched the heart of many people by his closeness and simplicity, so much so that the people of God called him "the good Bishop Moreau." He was the Bishop of the Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe from 1875 to 1901.

We invite you to read the prayer below or download the PDF of the prayer card, provided by the Chancery of the Diocesan Office of the Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe.

Father, we thank you for having given
the Church of Saint-Hyacinthe and of our country,
a devoted, prudent and compassionate pastor
in the person of Bishop Louis-Zéphirin Moreau.
With enlightened zeal and radiant piety,
he knew how to guide your children
entrusted to his pastoral charity towards the Kingdom.
Grant us, through his prayer and intercession,
the favour we are seeking (specify)

Grant that this son of ours,
a tireless witness of your goodness
to the little ones and to the poor,
may soon be canonized.
We ask this through Jesus, your Son,
the Light of the world.
