Highlights from 2019 Transitional Deacon Ordination

The pouring rain could not dampen the atmosphere on the evening of Thursday, June 20th, 2019 as five new transitional deacons were ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, was the principal celebrant along with concelebrating priests, including Auxiliary Bishop Emertius, Bishop Matthew Ustrzycki.

A transitional deacon is one who is preparing for ordination to the Priesthood in the presbyterial order. We offer our congratulations to Deacons Paul Edmondstone, Robin Mendonca, Francisco Sordo, Pawel Stankiewicz and Hayden Starczala. They have been assigned to Parishes in the Diocese for the summer months: Deacon Paul Edmondstone will be at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton; Deacon Robin Mendonca will serve at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph; Deacon Francisco Sordo will be spending the summer at St. Joseph Parish in Guelph; Deacon Pawel Stankiewicz has been assigned to St. Pius X Parish in Brantford; and Deacon Hayden Starczala will be at St. Clement Parish in Cambridge.

They will return to their Seminaries in the Fall to complete their theological studies. We wish them well in the coming year and encourage you to keep them in your prayers as they continue their journey toward the Priesthood.
