Jessica Dekker is an exceptionally well-rounded student-athlete from St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton. During the past year, Jessica was a national champion in rowing and is also a member of St. Mary’s Senior Girls volleyball team, who excitedly advanced to OFSAA this year. She is actively involved in the church as both a lector at St. Joseph’s Parish and an altar server at All Souls Parish in Hamilton.
Jessica prides herself on giving back to the community, helping with the CWL Christmas House Tour and the Neighbor to Neighbor Christmas Hamper Program annually. She also volunteers at both the Leander Boat Club and the Heart and Stroke Program. During the March break, Jessica and her St. Mary’s DREAMS classmates built a new home for a family in the San Jose de Ochoa region of the Dominican Republic.
The Diocese of Hamilton Award is given to a student in the graduating class in every high school across the Diocese at the end of every school year. The Award recognizes a student in the graduating class who has attained high academic proficiency and exemplifies Catholic leadership qualities, Christian values and a commitment to service in the community.
