11th Annual Diocesan Celebration for Catholic Education
On September 20th, 2018, hundreds of students, parents, current and retired educators, staff, trustees, clergy and members of the Diocesan community gathered for the 11th Annual Diocesan Celebration of Catholic Education at Holy Cross Parish in Georgetown. The theme of this year’s celebration was “the gift that is in you”, inspired by 1 Timothy 4:14.
This annual event brings together the seven Catholic school boards within the Diocese of Hamilton: Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board; Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board; Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir; Halton Catholic District School Board; Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board; Waterloo Catholic District School Board; and Wellington Catholic District School Board along with St. Jerome’s University.
The celebration opened with prayer and an outstanding performance from students of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School in Oakville on the history of Catholic education in the Hamilton Diocese.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided by His Excellency, Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, OMI, and concelebrated by Very Reverend Cornelius O’Mahony, Very Reverend Monsignor Murray Kroetsch, Reverend John Van Hees, and a number of clergy from across Halton Deanery. Following Mass, Bishop Crosby, the President of St. Jerome’s University and the Directors of Education for the seven school boards formally renewed the Diocesan Partnership through a signing of the Partnership Agreement.
