Bishop's Charities Invitational Golf Tournament
The forecast looked incredibly grim, but the sold-out crowd arrived unfazed on the morning of June 27, 2018 for the inaugural Bishop’s Charities Invitational Golf Tournament, presented by Tripemco Burlington Insurance Group. Oakville’s historic Glen Abbey Golf Club played host to the event, which saw friends and supporters of the Bishop’s Charities come together in support of De Mazenod Door Outreach, a ministry to the poor and marginalized of downtown Hamilton.
The event received overwhelming support from the community, raising just over $100,000 for the benefit those most in need. Despite the forecast’s near-guarantee of thunderstorms, there was not a single drop of rain during the tournament. The weather seemed to remind all those who golfed of an important lesson: God always blesses our efforts to extend dignity and charity to the poor! A sincere thanks to the many sponsors, golfers, and volunteers who together, through the work of the Bishop’s Charities, responded to the call of Pope Francis to be, “islands of mercy in the midst of the sea of indifference.”
