On Sunday, December 11th, the Cathedral hosted the annual Advent Hymn Festival. The event was also used to welcome the arrival of the second volume (Prophets) of the Saint John's Bible to arrive.
St. Michael’s is a warm and vibrant Parish community in Oakville under the care of Father Jason Kuntz, Pastor. The Parish, with approximately 800 active families enrolled, is home to a large Spanish community that enriches the life of the Parish with its rich traditions and active engagement.

On November 29, 2016 Mayor Fred Eisenberger of the City of Hamilton hosted a wonderful evening of food, music and appreciation in honour of the many members of our diverse community that have helped to welcome our Syrian brothers and sisters that have settled in Hamilton this past year.
On Friday, November 18th the Hamilton Diocese celebrated the closing of the Year of Mercy with a prayer service and a talk by Archbishop Bolen of Regina. Many were in attendance and filled the cathedral. Seminarians from St. Peter's Seminary came out to join in the event and hear Archbishop Bolen speak.

On Sunday, October 30th Bishop Crosby opened the Newman Centre Guelph at a Mass for the dedication of the oratory (i.e. “chapel”) and the consecration of the altar. The new chapel will offer regular masses for University of Guelph students.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As the Jubilee Year of Mercy draws to a close, I am struck by what a gift it was to have experienced this period of special reflection on the inexhaustible mercy of God. In calling the Church into this Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has shown himself to be greatly attuned to a profound need of the Church and the world.

On October 5th, Saint Dominic Parish in Oakville unveiled a memorial plaque in front of the church honouring Monsignor Roger W. Formosi, who died on October 6th, 2015. Msgr. On Sunday, May 29th, Most Reverend Bishop Douglas Crosby welcomed 467 couples from the Hamilton Diocese celebrating 25, 40, 50, 60 or 60+ years of marriage to the annual Anniversary Mass. Together the couples represent 21,670 years of marriage - a wonderful testament to the loving commitment they made so many years ago! This year we had a couple celebrating 71 years of marriage! Congratulations to them all!

The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, Living with Dignity and the Physicians Alliance Against Euthanasia have organized a rally against euthanasia and assisted suicide on parliament hill on Wednesday, June 1st (12 noon - 1:30 pm). On Friday, April 8th, the Vatican released the post-synodal apostolic exhortation by Pope Francis, titled Amoris Laetitia, on love in the family. It brings together the results of the two Synods on the family convoked by Pope Francis in 2014 and 2015.
On Monday, March 21st, the annual Chrism Mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, concelebrated with his college of Priests and at which he consecrated the Holy Chrism and blessed the other oils, manifesting the communion of Priests with their Bishop.

On Sunday, February 28th, the Diocese of Hamilton celebrated its 160th Anniversary at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King. The 11:00a.m. Mass hosted a variety of special guests, including His Grace, Archbishop Luigi Bonazzi, the Apostolic Nunzio of Canada, who preached at Mass during his first official visit to the Diocese. Also present was Dr. Kevin Smith, who was honoured as a Knight of St. Gregory.

On Sunday, February 14th, 2016, the first Sunday of Lent, the Rite of Election was celebrated at both the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton and the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph. A combined 120 catechumens from around the Diocese signed the Book of the Elect and acknowledged their preparation and intention to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
On February 29th, the Diocese of Hamilton will celebrate its 160th Anniversary! The Bishop Farrell Archives maintains the Papal Bull announcing the founding of the Diocese.

On Sunday, January 17th, hundreds gathered in the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King for the annual Multicultural Mass. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, presided over the unique and thoroughly enjoyable Mass that celebrated both our diversity and our cultural treasures.
The Rite of Election is celebrated annually on the First Sunday of Lent at 1:30 p.m. on February 14th at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King (Brant, Halton and Hamilton deaneries) and at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate (Bruce-Grey, Waterloo, Wellington deaneries).
All are welcome to join Bishop Crosby in celebrating the upcoming Multicultural Mass on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, followed by a social reception in the Cathedral Hall with a number of entertaining performances by various communities from across the Diocese.
