Altar Servers Awards Ceremony
On the evening of Tuesday May 14, 2013, the Serra Club of Hamilton welcomed 137 Altars Servers representing 33 parishes from the Brant, Halton and Hamilton deaneries to the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King for the thirtieth Annual “Altar Servers Awards Ceremony”. This annual award ceremony provides a wonderful opportunity for parishes to celebrate and honour their Altar Servers who faithfully and reverently serve at weekend Masses and other special liturgical celebrations throughout the Church year. By means of this very special recognition ceremony, parishes are showing their Altar Servers how grateful they are for their dedicated service.
Bishop Crosby spoke to all saying, when he was a young boy growing up in Marathon, Ontario, he loved being an Altar Server and has many fond memories serving Mass. He went on to say that he hopes those present experience the beauty of Eucharist as he did because Altar Servers help make the Mass beautiful because of their service. Bishop Crosby encouraged all the Altar Servers to consider their future service to the church including a serious consideration to the vocation of priesthood and religious life. Whatever these youngsters choose, we hope their love of God and love of life through service before the Eucharist brings them closer to Christ.
The Annual Altar Servers Awards Program is sponsored by the Serra Club of Hamilton and supported by the participating parishes. We are a recognized Catholic organization comprised of people from various walks of life. Our primary purpose is to foster vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. The Altar Servers Awards Program is one of a number of projects the Serra Club of Hamilton sponsors during the year.
