St. Charles Garnier Parish in Hamilton is recruiting for a Bookkeeper/Secretary. Reporting to the Parish Priest, this position requires a commitment of 15 hours a week. This position offer competitive compensation and benefits.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • - Accounting, bookkeeping for the parish and payroll for a small office team
  • - Maintaining accurate records
  • - Enter individual constributions to PDS (Parish Data System)
  • - Makes deposits and monistors fund balances regularly
  • - Prepares financial statements for the Church, for the Diocese, and for Revenue Canada
  • - Prepares tax receipts for parishioners and T4s for employees and Canada Revenue
  • - Maintains records of financial transactions and reports
  • - Responds to inquiries by phone, email, or in person
  • - Records mass intentions, sacramental registration information and issues sacramental certificates
  • - Maintains and updates the church calendar of events and Parish Data System
  • - Prepares materials for the church and orders supplies
  • - Coordinates and assists the work of the Pastor
  • - Prepares weekly bulletins
  • - Maintains church website and Facebook page

Skill requirements:

  • - Practical knowledge of basic accounting practices and principles
  • - Familiarity with Quickbooks
  • - Intermediate knowledge of Excel
  • - Competence in Word
  • - Excellent written and oral communication skills including effective interpersonal skills
  • - Familiarity of the Roman Catholic liturgical practices and sacraments
