Refugee and Immigration Office
The Office for Refugees and Immigration at the Diocese of Hamilton has been in existence for over 30 years. Its main focus is the relocation and resettlement of refugees; Refugees who are outside of their country of origin and in need of shelter, safety and protection.
About the Program
Resettlement is possible via a program called PSR. The PSR (Private Sponsorship of Refugees) program enables privatesponsors, working together with their constituent groups, to sponsor refugees from abroad.
Constituent groups are parishes, religious orders and other related groups within the Diocese of Hamilton. The sponsor, together with the constituent group, makes up the “Sponsoring Group." The obligation of the sponsoring group is as follows: to provide the refugee family with both moral and monetary support for a period of one year; providing them with shelter, clothing, food and all of the necessities of life. Many of our sponsoring groups will confirm, that helping re-settle refugeesand being a part of their successful integration into life here in Canada, is a very rewarding experience.
