2017 Rite of Election Highlights

On Sunday, March 5th, the first Sunday of Lent, the Rite of Election was celebrated at two locations within our Diocese. His Excellency, Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, where the catechumens from Parishes in Hamilton, Brant and Halton, signed the Book of the Elect. Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Miehm celebrated at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph, for the Parishes in the Deaneries of Bruce-Grey, Wellington, and Waterloo. Here an additional 25 catechumens signed the Book of the Elect. By signing, all the catechumens acknowledged their preparation and intention to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil (Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist).

After their names were enrolled in the Book of the Elect, the Bishop's declared the catechumens to be “members of the elect” It was a wonderful and powerful event as catechumens of various ages from Parishes across the entire Diocese gathered for the Liturgy.

Salt + Light media was present in Hamilton at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King to broadcast the celebration live. You can re-watch it here:  http://saltandlighttv.org/specialcoverage/rite-of-election
