CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD WORKSHOP
Who is it for?
This workshop is for all who celebrate the liturgy of the word with children during the Sunday Eucharist. The workshop will be of particular interest to those who are new to this ministry. Experienced leaders and clergy will also find this workshop helpful.
Description
This workshop will feature an overview of the recent resource from the CCCB Publications: Celebrating the Word with Children: Guidelines for Practice. This resource was written to assist those involved with planning and leading the Liturgy of the Word with Children on Sundays. Included in the workshop will be discussion of the following issues: creating a place for prayer, skills for leading prayer, preparing the Scripture texts, leading intercessory prayer, music and the use of ritual in celebrations with children. Resources will be recommended. Participants will walk-through an actual celebration of the Word and discuss its structural elements. Other ways in which children may participate more fully in the parish Sunday Eucharist will be explored.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD FORMATION DAYS
Who are they for?
All new ministers of the word who have been invited to proclaim the Word of God to their brothers and sisters during the Sunday Eucharist and other liturgical celebrations of the Christian community. This workshop will also prove beneficial for those who proclaim the Scriptures as part of their ministry as catechists.
Description
The formation session will begin with an overview of the theology of the word of God proclaimed in the liturgy and the implications of our understanding of the Scriptures for proclamation and our spiritual life. The structure of the Sunday Lectionary and some practical “do’s and don’t’s” will also be discussed. Finally, each participant will have the opportunity to proclaim a Scripture text and receive suggestions for strengthening their proclamation of God’s word.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF COMMUNION FORMATION DAYS
Who are they for?
All new ministers of Communkion who have been invited to exercise this ministry of charity during the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist, or with the sick and elderly in hospitals or homes.
Description
Participants will explore the mystery of the Eucharist as it is presented in the Scriptures and as it has been celebrated by the Church throughout the centuries. They will also have an opportunity to reflect on their own experience of the Mass and explore what it means to a minister of Communion, not just on Sunday, but throughout the week. Some practical tips related to the exercise of their ministry during the celebration will also be offered. Those who are ministers to the hospitalized and homebound will have a special opportunity to discuss the particular way they are called to exercise this office of immense love.

GATHERED TO SING -- A Choral Workshop
Who is it for?
This workshop is for all parish choir directors and members of parish choirs. It is especially for all who seek an opportunity to learn new music and develop their choral skills while being part of a large choir. Come and discover a new dimension in the world of sound!

Facilitators: Stillman Matheson, the director of music at St. Joseph Church, Hamilton, along with members of the Diocesan Music Commission will lead this choral workshop and assist participants to develop their choral skills and techniques.

ANNUAL RCIA CONFERENCE
Sponsoring Catechumens and Accompanying Candidates
Who is the conference for?
This conference is offered as a means of ongoing formation for parish initiation teams: catechists, sponsors, pastors, members of liturgy committees and all who are engaged in the process of Christian initiation with adults.
Conference focus
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults places a great deal of emphasis on a variety of ministers who are to accompany and assist those seeking initiation into the Catholic Church. In addition to the parish and the catechists (RCIA team) sponsors are to accompany candidates and stand as witnesses to their moral character, faith and intentions.
The focus of the conference will be on the ministry of sponsor, the choice of sponsors and the different ways that sponsors exercise their important ministry throughout the initiation process.

DIOCESAN RETREAT DAY FOR MUSICIANS
Christ Be Known In All Our Singing
Who is it for?
This annual retreat day is for all parish musicians: music coordinators, conductors, choir members, cantors, organists, guitarists, and other instrumentalists who lead their parish community in song during the Sunday Eucharist and other liturgical celebrations. Also, all who love to sing their prayer during the Church’s liturgy will find spiritual nourishment in this retreat day.
When and Where?
SATURDAY, March 28, 2009 St. John Parish Brant Street at Blairhom Avenue BURLINGTON 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $15.00 per person (includes lunch)
Facilitator: Reverend John-Mark Missio, Director of St. Michael’s Choir School in Toronto. Father Missio pursued formal music studies at the Royal Conservatory (Toronto), Wilfred Laurier University (Waterloo), and the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music (Rome). In addition, he has completed a master’s degree in Liturgical Studies at the Liturgical Institute (Mundelein).
Note: All participants are asked to bring a copy of the Choir Edition of the CBW III with them.

DIOCESAN CHOIR
The Diocesan Choir under the direction of Mrs. Sharon Fazari begins rehearsals in Hamilton in the fall of 2008. The choir provides music for the celebrations of the Chrism Mass, the annual Mass with New Catholics and Priesthood Ordination. They also lead an Advent Hymn Festival each year.
New members are asked to audition.
