Accountant (Entry-Level)

As the second largest Diocese in English speaking Canada, the Diocese of Hamilton serves more than 626,000 Roman Catholics throughout Southern Ontario. Furthermore, its Catholic Cemeteries provide service to over 1500 families annually. We are interested in hiring an Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a recent university graduate pursuing their CPA designation.  The candidate should have experience with MS Excel, and strong analytical skills. Experience with Quickbooks would also be an asset.  The Accountant will report directly to the Comptroller/Director and will need to demonstrate the ability to work proactively and independently in a fast-paced office environment. The Accountant will be responsible for:

Ensuring the proper recording of transactions in the various accounting and management software.

Assisting with the preparation of Financial Statements and Budgets.

Analyzing and reconcile bank statements and general ledgers.

Maintaining and recording fixed assets.

Preparing and filing compliance reports as necessary.

Ideally the Accountant will have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent problem-solving skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office

Able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
